This was a fascinating view into everyday life in India. We stood outside the area watching the workers wash and hang multitudes of laundry for the people in Mumbai. It was amazing to see and provided insight into how people live and work there.

They don't allow you to actually enter the washing area. You essentially get a view of the whole thing from on a nearby bridge. It is still fascinating to see all the wash getting done. Beware you will be approached to buy things.

...it's outdoors and it has an amazing record in terms of correctly returning laundry to the right owners. See from the Mahalaxmi bridge which is just to the left of the exit from the rail station. We tried to go down and enter the area itself but some thuggy-looking young men tried to shake us down for money to enter....

It is difficult to get up close to the Ghat, but we aprked on a bridge and looked down onto literally tens of thousands of garments and sheets, all hanging out to dry, colour coded and sized - what an amazing sight - and they are the work of 100s of washers or dhobis - somehow, all the washing gets...

The Dhobi Ghat it self looks amazing. but the area looks awful. So the way I see it...... don't fell like You have to see it.

It's a nice place. but there is nothing much to do there. it's only the Dhobi Ghat and that's it.

To us westerners this is very weird it is an open laundry in the middle of the slums, where Hospitals and Hotels send their sheets to be washed by slum people, after seeing this you dont feel very comfortable with your hotel sheets anymore.....
