The two sides of this canyon, like that of the Siq at Petra in Jordan, have been near-perfectly split, like two halves of a giant zipper, by tectonic forces. It is a short and easy walk from the upper entry down to St Thecla Monastery. The resemblance to Petra's siq does not end there. What appear to be Nabatean water... More

This is a part of the christian orthodox pilgrimage program. Believed to be where the mountain opened up to save saint Takla, the aramaic syrian girl (and an important orthodox Saint) escaping the roman soldiers about to capture her in the first century. More
