Obviously, you need to visit since this is one of the most important sites in Buddhism. It doesn't matter that you don't get to see the tooth (and that it's probably not the real deal). It's the emotional and philosophical experience at being at such an important place. More

There is a great deal to recommend Sri Lanka and Kandy is one of its nicer towns. However, the Temple of the Tooth did not rate as highy on the Sri Lanka hit parade as we expected and any of the ancient sites further north offer more in terms of art and architecture. The main problem for us was the... More

The most popular tourist spot in Sri Lanka. Gets crowded in the mornings. Best visited in the night when the lights of torches and sounds of drumming make the visit more spectacular. However if culture is not your thing, best not visited. More

Went here during Vesak - had a brilliant guide Dinesh Duminda (adroit999@gmail.com) who took us around the Temple and explained everything to us. He was a perfect gentlemean and even though it was really busy made sure we got to see the Sacred Tooth when it came on show. Fantastic night - unforgetable...Thank you Dinesh More

Now a buddist temple this was originally a palace built by a king of Kandy. It is impressive on either count. To get the best out of a visit hire a local guide who can tell you about the history of the place in far more detail than you can get just by walking around on your own. The guide... More

The best time to visit the temple is at the night ritual. The entry tax included also a CD about Kandy and the Temple; very nice introduction in the world of Lord Budha. The outside simplicity of the buildings which form the temple is exceeded by the beautiful interiors decorated with inlaid woods, ivory and lacquer. The guide explained me in... More

It is easy ot feel you are being conned as you are guided to a separate entrance and pay to get through. But once inside and you see local families bring their babies to the temple you realise you are actually privilaged to be allowed in this very special place More
