This is part of the walking temple loop tour. This particular temple is noted for its intricate wooden carvings and they are well-worth a look. Being away from the bustle of Kandy, you also get more of a sense and feel for the time and place when the temple was built and used. More

Don;t forget to pick up wood carvings sold outside the temple, some of them are excellent replica;s of the carvings found on the columns of the temple hall More

It was my first visit to Embekke and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had an old man guiding me and explaining the different carvings at this temple. More

We spent one morning visiting the three temples Gadaladeniya, Kankatilake and Embekke located just outside Kandy. We did it with our own transportation, but some people do spend a whole day walking between the three. Each of the three is unique and each is quite beautiful. The Embekke Devalya is a very nice hinduism temple about ten kilometers outside of Kandy. It is very old as it was built in the 14th/15th century. The wooden columns consist of carvings with dancers, animals, etc. We highly recommend to combine the Embekke Devalaya with the other temples such as Lankatilake and Gadaladeniya. again the same story..the only interest is in collecting the entry fees..the place being far off from the city is in serious need of attentiona dn funding..so go there only if you have nothing to do and still need time to spend More

not many tourists go here so the place is pretty empty. the temple is made entirely from wood. amazing how the wood work was done. the carvings on the pillar is really detailed. entrance fee is SLR200 per person More

A few hundred different wood carvings are covering the poles. Very interesting for those who like carvings. More
