I am writing this, nothing to take away from this Ancient Beauty. But as a hill station traveller, whatever attraction spot you may go, you will expect a chill climate. Though my visit was in Feb, the weather is exactly the opposite of Munnar. There are only rocks. So, avoid summer visit. If you are solo or group of friends... More

you need to reach avillage called marayur to see this prehistic site, perched over two mountains these are thought to be dwellings of prehistorical or burial grounds ,little research is done so far.but has enormous potential to do some serious archaeological research.

This is at quite a distance from Munnar (about 35-40 Km) from Munnar and after Marayur. The dolmens are fascinating and there seems to be very little effort to preserve and develop this site well. The view from the top of the rock is excellent. Except for a big board explaining the attraction, there is very little directions once you... More

Muniyara dolmens, prehistoric burial sites are there in Marayur hills. A left turn from Marayur town junction and a drive for around 6 km via kovilkadavu will take you to the dolmens. The famous Marayur sandalwood forest borders the hill with dolmens, which is just a check-post away. Near Kovilkadavu one can see a lot of sugarcane fields and cane...

Place has good tourist potential but is very poorly maintained. The muni shelters are full of empty liquor bottles, cigarette packets and waste.

Muniyaras in Marayoor take you to the past. Wonder how our ancestors lived during the time of these dolmens. The natural beauty around the area where dolmens are located is amazing.

Ancient remains of history is really a good information provider. You can see dolmens near the high school and near the golden temple. For a scenic view of Marayoor you can go to high school dolmenoids, After that proceed to the kanthalloor route, Hairpin road leading towards the golden kovil, there you can see many preserved dolmens. After that you... More

Anyone visiting Munnar ought to do a day trip to see the prehistoric burial sites - Muniyaras / dolmens - near Marayoor. There are several of these dolmens located in the region. The one's easiest to get to are on the rock face at St. Pious Nagar at Kovilkadavu which is about 5 min drive from Marayoor, a small town... More
