The day we were there they had a SPCA like animal adoption outside the zoo and it was cute. Inside it was hard to take pictures as most animals were in cages, but I didn't find it depressing, just like an old zoo of your childhood. Then they had some moats where you saw the monkeys, crocs, and the jaugars.... More

“Animals and birds in poor conditions”

This zoo is run by the Military (who are next door), and it is called 'Centro De Instrucao De Guerra Na Selva' or CIGS. I was very disappointed by some of the small cages that the animals were in and their very poor conditions ie old litter within the cages, and dirty bathing waters for the animals. It gave the... Not a very good zoo as the animals are few and far between. Labels for wildlife are not very clear and it is not well taken care of. More

CIGS Zoo (Zoológico do CIGS) is a traditional spot in Manaus. It is run by the Army´s Jungle Operations Center. It is cheap and one may find some nice animals from the Amazon, such as arara, onça, gata maracajá, jacaré, cobra e papagaio. Exciting djungle trip on the Amazon, provided by Amazing Tours Agency! We got to see lots of exotic animals and had great guided tours with canoes on the river. More
