Everyone knows this. Dont be fooled by the guide that tells you the square is so huge you can see the curvature of the earth. Sometimes access is restricted for big events. I walked through this square nearly every evening on my way back to my hotel. There are some great souvenir stands and ice-creams are sold within 10 steps of one-another.
