The Fort is nice to see from the water but underwhelming and not worth the trip across the river (unless you are a huge history nut)
Instead, you might consider the many other super exciting things to do around Kuching

The Fort was apparently a barracksduring the White Raja reign. On my tourist guide it was referred to as the Police Museum - now it is empty except for a disinterested caretaker. A single sign gives a few lines of history, but it could be a much better venue with a little restoration. Worth the 50 cent water taxi fare...

The trip across the Kuching river (R1) was followed by a 15 min walk up a hill following some vague tourist directions and using my own sense of direction (once said signs ran out) though as stated by previous reviewers, the final product was a little dissapointing. The fort itself is small, though I think its had a fresh lick...

hard to get to, hardly any sign posting.
When arriving, there are no displays, no explanations of it's place in history.
The building itself is nice, you can climb the walls and look out from the look out posts.
Half an hour is the maximum to spend here..
Toilets are truly horrid.

It's free entry so I feel a bit mean giving it an average score - but I'd rather pay a few Ringitt and get something better preserved, with some museum installations, and a proper interpretive centre. Not bad for free though!

I'm not too sure about the place cause usually they don't allow you to go in there. But from tales I've heard and it was in the newspaper a few times as well, the fort is somewhat "haunted" every time workers try to go in to repair the place cause it's falling apart, they would hear footsteps or people tapping...

The fort, along with the Istana, dominate the views from The Sarawak River. It is a beautiful little 'castle' and should be at the forefront of tourism in Kuching. Sadly, even getting to the place is difficult and involves walking along dirt paths and broken old paving. There is very little information about what is obviously an important part of...

A wonderful part of Kuching's history, preserved for future generations

This fort is not curated, with only a few signs around with brief explanations about the history of the fort. I would've preferred more information and perhaps even brochures/leaflets on the history of the place. Even the walk to find the fort seemed odd -- like trying to find a place in the middle of a small village without proper...
