Excellent junior programme of short ballets viewed from a box. Beautiful theatre a mixture of Eastern architecture and Soviet style.

Place is great inside, you don't expect such elegance from outside. If you catch good show as we did (Swan lake with Russian guests stars), the experience would be full.

Went there after the restorative works were over - I could hardly recognize the old shabby interior... Splendor and glory! Try to see visiting troupes from Moscow, St Petersburg and abroad. Not to fond of the local one...

This recently reconstructed and renovated theater gets you back to the Soviet Union times when everything was too big, too massive, too impresive :). Well maintained spirit.

Watched a Kazakh talent show here: samples from their regular ballet, opera and music performances. The talent of the performers was unquestionable. The costumes elaborate. We have been here many times as a couple and with our family. The Abai Opera and Ballet house is definitely a must see for all visitors to Almaty. It shows the high standard of the performing arts in Kazakhstan. It is almost unbelievable how cheap the tickets are. Wonderful that such quality performances remains within reach of the average... It`s a lovely place for opera-maniacs! I love opera (esp.Verdi`s). Interesting architecture, nice staff, feeling of something magic. Of course, its not Olavinlinna, but definitely its has own charm.

There is something magic in this oldish, soviet-kazakh, refurbished theatre. The average level is really good; ok, this is not the Bolchoi theatre in Moscow, but anyway good and very good value for money. A real pleasure to go there before a nice dinner in town.
