First the road was an obstacle course with giant potholes. We had to bribe a construction wotker to move equipment so we could continue on up. the lake was low so not as pretty as the pictures. More

The blue / green of the lake with high mountains around MUST be seen if you visit Almaty. It will take at least one hour 1/2 from the city centre, and it is really worth it. More

Great view and fresh air. If you walk by foot up in the mountain and get tired you have your best reward in the end of trip! More

This is just amazing. High hills lake on the level of 2000 m above the sea. different and really beautiful in different seasons. There is not too far to the space station (observatory) where you can ask to look to the sky thru 1.8m telescope during the night. More

Beautifull place! Lake ia amazing. Mountains fantastic! That is reaaly wonderfull place. However the road to the lake is not good. I went there with one of the 100.000 people that run private cars as taxi in Almaty.The trip take about one hour from town.The lake is located at 2500 mt height .I was there in august.Pretty cold,around 5-6 °C.The area around the lake is protected by a berrier. Big Almaty Lake is near Almaty. The name may be a little misleading - the lake is not very big but is named after the big almaty river which supplies it.
