Loved this place. Really easy to reach from Tokyo with the direct trains leaving from there (2 hours). The hakone free pass is also really good as it gives you access to all the transport in the region and also cool attractions such as the scenic railway, gondola with possible views of mt Fuji, and the lake cruise. Such a... More

I took the train to Hakone, about 5 or 6 interchange and I asked the officers a lot by pointing to the map. You should buy one day bus-train pass to go around the place. The bus took me to the mountain and lake Ashi to view Fuji Mount. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and snowing from the day before. I... More

Hakone is by far the best place to be close to nature in Japan and get spectacular views of Mt Fiju too. About two hours by train from Tokyo Hakone is a spectacular region surrounding Lake Ashinoko. The tour around Hakone takes you an a ferry, aerial rope way, cable car and a classic railway line. Highlights of the trip... More

I lived in Japan for 8yrs and this is my first time to Hakone. Its an unbelievable place.\ A must visit if you come to Japan. Our trip this time is from Tokyo by rental car. It took about 3 hrs as we stop several times on our way when we sees something. When we reached Hakone we have to... More

We visited in march. Great region to visit. We did the whole loop with train, ropeway, boat etc. On the day we visited was very cold, low cloud and grey. This spoilt the views but never the less it was fun to do all the different forms of transport over the day. The transport arrangements are excellent and quick to... More

There are so many ways to slice this pie called Hakone. If you have been to Tokyo several times already, try a day or overnight trip to Hakone. You can take a bullet train to Odawara and take a hotel bus to the destination or take a Odakyu Romance Car from Shinjuku Station to Hakone Yumoto. The ultimate destination should... More

HAKONE is a great place. Crowded on holidays - but - come on this is Japan for heavens sake - what else would you expect. Do the entire circuit and eat lunch on the shore at Hakone at the south end of the lake. Make sure you get your round trip tickets to save money. Check the Lonely Planet for... More

Hakone is a beautiful area with plenty to see and do. This area should be added to a Japan itinerary. The many museums and natural beauty are worth a three to four day trip.
