If you are not afraid of the sulphurous fumes (rotten egg smell), do visit the Owakudani Valley. Be sure to try the Kuro-tamago onsen eggs, that is said to extend one's life by 7 years if you consume it. Do try the soft ice-cream as well, it's extremely delicious in winter. More

It was worthwhile and a good experience for us seeing the hot and bubbling sulphuric pool. It was a 15 minutes walk from the ropeway station.
