here you can see different kinds of animals from different countries... it was my first time to see a very big rhino though he's already old... also my first time to see a polar bear but he's not white... basically, it's like any other zoo... with the garden, i think there are much more other places that is more bautiful... This is the place to go if you are tired with the busy life of Nagoya. This park is huge with a lot of things to see and do. A simple stroll would really take your mind into the bosom of nature and release you from city stress; I did to me every time!

I visited this zoo in 1996 and again in 2012. My memory of it from my first visit was that it was relatively good, particularly by Japanese zoo standards. But this time, I felt like that facilities were quite old, and most of the animals looked not particularly happy and not in great condition. So I would now say it... More

As it was said in some other review, the gardens and the Sky Tower are nice but the zoo is awful. The animals are held in super small cages with no toys and barely one or two wood sticks to keep themselves entertained. The animals are almost all kept alone and keep trying to look at each other from one... More

Well, I've been here many times due to having two children. I don't like coming here to see the animals. There is a huge bias toward the koalas, as I was told the only way to get them was that the zoo had to build a spectacular habitat for them. The other habitats are very dated. The polar bear should... More

I was there in Spring and the cherry blossoms were everywhere. It took my breath away and sad to say i spent more time oogling at the flowers than the animals. The animals were really not much to look at but for 500yen, is it rather cheap and i had a great time in their gardens

This place is a bit depressing with elephants in a holding pen smaller than my apartment, and polar bears that are blatently going crazy. I hate to see this place get any money until they sort the place out and make some better habitats.

A large park with well marked paths, it is easy to spend several hours walking among the trees and flowers without realizing that you are still in a large industrialized city. The hilly landscape provides a good workout for runners and walkers. In the spring there is a large space that is filled with blooming cherry trees. The park is... More

The highlight of Higashiyama Koen Zoo & Botanical Gardens is DEFINITELY the gardens. These are beautiful, peaceful and I should have spent my whole day there!! Unfortunately, I went through the zoo first. While there are wide variety of animals at the zoo, the animals are in extremely small cages/areas. I went into a Rhinocerous exibit and found this huge... More

I've been travelling to Japan from Scotland for 10 years, and this is one of my favourite botanical gardens to visit ( I've seen about 8 including Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka ), only Kyoto gardens are arguably better with multiclimate glasshouse and superb collection of bonsai ! The atmosphere at Higashiyamakoen is calm and peaceful with many quiet corners, tho... More
