I did not know anything about the astronomer Ulugh Beg before my visit to this museum and was impressed that he was one of the 6 famous astronomers during his time in line with Tycho Brahe etc. This museum is a tribute to his work and shows miniatures of how the observatory looked like originally. Very pretty complex with a very cute, new museum and lots of info. The best was seeing all the locals there who were always up for a chat. More

The machinery for the observatory is amazing, it was so advanced for its time. Ulugh Beg is up there with the best know astronomers like Halley and Tycho Brahe. Don't miss it. More

The oldest observatory in the world, you won't believe your own eyes. Just think of level of culture and science people used to have in Ancient Samarkand. More

Having lain hidden for so long this was just a fascinating sight to see. The museum attached shows what it would have looked like when first constructed. Quite a few newly married couples about. Seems to be a popular place to visit after the ceremony. More
