I walked from Swissotel Izmir to the top of Kadifekale, it is a long walk and when it is hot it is even longer. The walk was interesting and quite strenuous, take your water bottle with. Went to Kadifekale a month or so ago. It's easy to get there on the #30 bus from Konak, which takes you through ancient (pre-1922) slums and winding streets.
