Originally a giant temple to three Egyptian gods, it is the vivid red colour and sheer size which impresses. It takes 30 minutes or so to walk around and inspect the ruins and peer inside from purpose built sites. Some restoration has occurred but some sections of the high walls look a little precarious.

Ruins seem in serious dis-repair, un-supported. Many tourists ignore posted warnings, step over barriers . . . but beautiful structures. Must see.

The Red Basilica is worth seeing if you're in Bergama, although considering the walls are unsteady and you can't go inside the walls, you can probably get just a good of a view from the outside, avoiding the entrance fee.
