The temple and grounds at Saranath are excellent. My favorite part was to see all of the prayer flags from all over the world hanging near the tree where Budda gave his first lecture. More

This place is great for a morning from the hussle of Varanasi. We used a tut-tut (400 rupees from Varanasi) and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Sarnath I stayed overnight since people recommended that to avoid the crowds (which didn’t seem that much of a problem late in season). I was expecting the ruins to be in their natural state rather than concreted pathways upto and around each foundation. Main structure is still impressive. More
