We attended the Sunday morning service at St. Stephens Church and enjoyed the Solemnity which seems to stretch over the decades. It was a very nice sight to see all the young girls from St. Hilda's troop in for the service and sit quietly but impatiently. In fact, they could not wait till the service was over, and started marching... More

if you want a little snapshot into life as it was in the Raj,reading the epitaphs in thechurch brings it some colour-so many died young, from disease or accidents or violent deaths.the stained glass windows are also very beautiful to see-just a shame they don't sell postacrds of them.

As a small church with a smattering of inscriptions and dedications from Ooty's colonial past, the church makes a reasonable enough visit. It's well kept and has pretty sainted glass windows, but this Brit has seen too many churches to me wowed, so 3 stars is all it gets.

The Church is beautiful, with some excellent stained glass windows. There were many memorial stones in the church, were interesting to know or read the names of people remembered by friends and relatives. The graveyard is also worth a visit. So many Europeans in the colonial age traveled so far and died so young.

St Stephen's Church is a hidden treasure. The stained glass windows, installed when the church ws built in the early 1800s still retain their jewel tones. The wood for the massive beams was supposedly brought from Tipu Sultan's palace in Srirangapatnam. Do not miss the spectacular cemetery- the poignant statements on the gravestones will touch your heart.

Seeing a church such as St Stephens in Ooty reminds you how important the British were to the development of this town up in the hills. The chuch is well maintained and the graveyard bears witness to the many British people who lived there and often died so young.

This is a nice friendly church. It was Sunday morning and it was packed with standing room only for mass. Unusual as it was full of Hindu's, most of which had already been to temple. Good for a stop.

If you have an interest in the old Ooty and the families who developed it go to the church and read the memorials. Spend time also in the graveyard where many an interesting and tragic tale is told on the gravestones. The church has fine stained glass and views down to the town.
