Loved the ride - and for my 12 year old it was his first - but i kept comparing it to the ride i had with the original engine when the ride was slower and had more tunnels - so I was a little more disappointed More

Enjoyment for young ones as well as adults. Lovely view of valley and greenery. Can you believe that this track and stations were built around 1903-8? It is an isolated track, i.e. not connected to rail network. It must have been very difficult job to bring engines, coaches, rails track etc in those days to this mountain range. Since it... More

Nice ride through great scenery with historical train, slowly, take your time. Nice and cool up in the mountains. You may like to take a sweater with you, it might be a little chilly in the morning. And perhaps you would like to take some snacks or sandwiches with you and something to drink? More

This is, undoubtably, the best way of enjoying the beauty of the Nilgiris. While the whole journey from Mettupalayam to Ooty may seem a little too long - a short trip from Coonoor to Ooty packs in all the punch in that 1 hour. Must do, while in the area! More

Travelling on the train from Ooty to Mettupalayam and then back from Coonor to Ooty was a wonderful amd unique experience made all the more fascinating by the train stopping to allow an elephant and her baby to cross the track and further along when the train was taking in water a visitation by a large group of monkeys. Viewing... More

We went from Ooty to Mettapalyam in December. Since it was high season we could only get a second class wait list ticket. For that reason we were there 2 hours before departure and were first in line. We didn't even expect that there would be a line but once the train came everything was super organized and only people... More

The train is dinky, so cramped, especially as the policy seems to be to cram as many people into the carriages instead of laying on more carriages. The windows are awkwardly placed for taking photos or even seeing out of. Nevertheless we had a more than 2 hour steam train ride for about 45p, which can hardly be complained about,... More
