This tour was well planned. A tour guide is a must. We saw every process of the making silk including the life of the ilk worm. You are able to touch the silk as it is made. At the conclusion of the tour, there is a silk store where you can buy clothes at fantastic prices. There is an area... More

From the moth to the larva to the cocoon--it's all there. Amazing that one cocoon has a mile of silk fiber in it. I appreciate all the work involved by the worm and the people. Great way to broaden your view of the chinese and their work ethic. Styling clothes, beautiful quilts, reasonable prices and shipping wasn't too bad, if you... More

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the silk factory. The items they are offer are excellent quality & good price & comes with government warranty. It is easy to get mesmerized by the huge selection. My advice is to know what you wish to purchase because our tour allowed very little time there-not enough to actually shop. So if your interested,... More

After several trips to China I visited Suzhou #1 with first time friends and we spent time in the duvet shop. I did not know they existed but our guide had said she has used one for years and it is a good buy. She was so right and I am grateful that I took the time to go thru... More

The silk factory starts off with a museum that walks you through a glamorized version of the history of silk, with little dioramas showing ancient silk production from the picking of mulberry leaves to feed the silk worms, to the actual weaving. Different types of old looms are shown with examples of traditional brocades. Another part of the exhibit shows... More

I visited as part of a class trip organized by the university in Shanghai where I attended a summer intensive language program. The tour guide spoke English very well and the tour followed the process from mulberry tree to finished product. We walked through the factory floor, looking over the shoulders of the workers. They let us in everywhere but... More

While Suzhou No. 1 Silk Mill is now nothing but a show for tourists, and have been warned by several Chinese friends that some of their silk products are fake, it is still a great place to learn about the history and manufacturing of silk. The first few sections of the mill are dedicated to the history and manufacturing process... More

This place is government run and therefore they don't bargain. That reason alone is why I wouldn't buy from this place. They also get mad if you try anything on. I waited my whole trip in china to get my silks here and was disappointed. One nice thing is that they have decent quality and they can mail to your... More
