We visited here at the end of a long day sightseeing. Our tuk tuk driver also turned out to have a good command of English which was a real bonus. As the day passed, we chatted and little by little he began to tell us about himself .....Both his parents and all three of his siblings perished at the hands... More

It's quite easy to be swept away on a tide of temples whilst in Cambodia, so this works well as a reminder of the countries far more recent history. There's little to see, a shrine with skulls of victims of the Khmer Rouge, a few boards with photos from the time of pol pot, a beautiful pagoda, and a building... More

Halfway out of town on the way to Angkor Wat you will find Wat Thmei.  This was once one of Cambodia’s horrible killing fields where many innocent men women and children were tortured and killed.  There is a large stupa filled with bones and skulls that were collected by locals in memory of their family and friends. Today many tour... More

This is not a polished tourist stop. This is grassroots Cambodia in recovery. The wat has a small memorial of bones from the killing field history of the wat and a few dozen weathered photos of that era. They give you a flavor of life under the Khmer Rouge but do walk around and see life at the wat today.... More

This is a good place to visit. Beside the monument containing bones which other reviewers have described, there are some photos behind glass of some of the people who died (I'm not sure if they are the ones whose bones are here), a temple with paintings illustrating the Buddha's life, and a couple of small shops raising money for the... We got a $2 tuktuk from the centre of town to visit Wat Thmey, upon arriving we were met by Cambodian signs, nothing in English and three big buildings, one Buddha statue and a small glass display case with skulls, bones and cloth in it. The three buildings are empty except for a small statue in each. There is one... More

In this temple you can witness the bones collected from the killing during Pol Pot regime. The place is a bit disturbing!

Wat Thmey might not be overly impressive to look at, but it is still worth spending 20 minutes or so here at this site, and to pay your respects to those brutally murdered here. There is a memorial stupa filled with skulls and clothing of those who passed, and it is powerful to stand there in silence and take a... More
