I went having doubts, but the event turned out to be really sweet and fun. What a great modern way to show off the amazing ethnic groups clothing in an innocently simple, yet fun way. It is professionally done, and done well,esp in the effort of putting this together and collecting such an amazing array of local ethnic clothing.

More than 49 different ethnic groups can be found living in Laos. Most of these groups continue to dress in traditional costumes passed down by their ancestors.To showcase these colorful creations, Kopnoi, Made in Laos, is presenting a live Ethnic Fashion Show in Luang Prabang.Twenty Lao models parade down the catwalk over 95 different outfits with intricate designs including traditional jewelry, headwear, and ceremonial outfits, basketry and baby carriers used by the different ethnicities. Also, a collection by Phaeng Mai Gallery's, Laos' Top Silk Designer is featured in the last segment of the show.The show is held at Hive Bar & Restaurant starting at 7pm, Tuesday through Saturday, in a beautiful outdoor garden setting. The show features video projection relaying information about the different ethnic groups & 2 short films (cotton process by Lao Lhu & Hmong New Year). On hand at the Hive Bar, the staff are ready to answer any questions you might have.Afterwards, guests are welcome to stay and soak up the atmosphere of the premier nightspot of Luang Prabang, Hive bar & rRestaurant.The bar has a full drinks list with great happy hour specials, a Lao and Western food menu, including wood-oven pizza and selection of local & international tapas. Located at the bottom of Phousi Hill, Hive Bar has an amazing indoor and outdoor atmosphere with a DJ playing contemporary music, as well as a dance floor and an indoor lounge.

The Ethnik fashion show is fun and free (if you buy a drink or food, but come on, you were going to do that somewhere anyways). the handicraft here are wonderfull, but I think the owner pretend to be on the " fair trade sale" when there is no certification or documentation that the wages she provides to her labourers are higher or more fair than the normal.is it acceptable to pay a lot for a carpet if I'm sure that part of the profit goes...

A good way to spend an evening. Fabric and costumes from all over Laos modelled by students and not professional models, and the fashion show helps them to pay for their studies.

We heard about the fashion show from being in the bar next door - L'etranger which is also fab.
The fashion show is very well produced and the 95 tribal costumes are in beautiful condition. Fun & different way to display such an interesting subject.
The fact the show is 'free' is great, think you just buy a drink, though...

This was awesome. We spoke to one of the designers, she is so passionate about her work and ensuring the costumes don't go into a museum, but be on show to the people. The bar the show is held in is so cool you wouldn't think you were in Laos, the dancers at the end of the show were fantastic.

If you're really hard up for something to do I guess you can do this. It doesn't cost you anything except what you eat and drink. Most people get bored quickly and revert to chatting amongst each other. There is nothing particularly 'Ethnic' about it.

We went to see the Ethnik Fashion show on a Wednesday night but as there were only us and another couple in the 'show' area (in a garden behind the bar), they didn't put the show on but we (and the other couple) came back the next night and luckily there ended up being enough people for the show to...
