Last January in Luan Prabang, my husband and I met a very nice and brilliant Australian young woman, Emi Weir. She is the owner of Ma Te Sai(which in Lao means where is it from..) a nice shop in Main street near the Royal Palace where you can find beautiful, good quality , authentic (and sustainable) lao products, all hand... It's really nice to understand where the items you are looking at come from. Even Better to see them well packaged, fairly Priced and presented in a diverse gallery. I really enjoyed seeing the crafts from many outlying comunities and thought the overall quality was great. Bravo Ma Te Sai! More

If you want to make sure you are supporting traditional handicrafts and sustainable businesses when buying stuff in Luang Prabang, drop in to Ma Te Sai where you can read the stories behind all the great products they stock. The shop is in the main street and they are supporting minority groups to maintain their traditional skills (like dying and... More

I have been very attracted to Ma Te Sai, because it showcases original handicrafts and products made in Laos in one store. I have bought baskets, tea and rice samples, and those very unique "Make bracelets, not bombs"-bracelets to take back home for my friends. Myself, I decorated my place with several of their objects, baskets and pillows - which... More

Ma Te Sai is all about hand made products in Laos. It is a large market for gift and household items made by people all over Laos. By doing so, we can offer a higher and more sustainable income back to poor and vulnerable Lao artisans. They make great mementos of Laos, interesting and unique gifts, or add function and... More

I visited Ma Te sai last week and was absolutly charmed by the place. Go go go!!! Ma te sai or the Lao Alibaba's cave is full of organic products from all around the country. From comfortable coton scarves to organic rice, honey to herbal /green tea, amazing fabrics from Savanakhet to cute jackets of the Northern tribes... difficult to... More

I visited this shop in Luang Prabang after a friend told me about it, I was happy to find it open quite late as I was walking back to my guesthouse from dinner. The shop is well-organised and has a good selection of Lao products from across the country: home textiles, bags, cosmetics, scarves etc. The staff was able to... More

My friends raved about this shop when they were in Luang Prabang so I decided to check out their website. It’s so pretty that I ordered some gorgeous (and cheap!) gifts for my friend’s baby. Staff were very prompt and helpful with my purchase and I was able to pay using PayPal. It arrived in Australia within the specified time... More

A very nice shop indeed ! They offer a wide range of products, all made in Laos, by Lao people (unlike some other shops nearby…) I do recommend a visit, and as for me, I will surely visit their website regularly (again) I bought my souvenirs, and presents for friends or relatives there. Felt proud the money I spent would... More

This lovely little shop offers travelers the perfect opportunity to support local Laotians by buying a great range of fare-trade products. Love the belts, scrap metal braclets and bold coloured scarves. Enjoy the experience as did I! More
