This gallery is a must see...just outside one of the main artisan stores in Antigua very close to the Arch. It is next to Frida's restaurant, another of our fave places. Jon Kaplan's photos are captivating...just beautiful pieces of art. It is Guatemala's first and only photography gallery. On the evening we visited we were greeted by Gaspar, who was... More

I really enjoy photography as an art form, so was pleased to spot El Fotografo whilst exploring Antigua City. The work is beautiful and the children's faces just a joy - I bought two small prints. The staff were very helpful and some of them are the grown up versions of the children in the photos whcih is nice. Whilst... More

This store has an amazing collection of photographs taken of people, mostly children, all around Guatemala. The pictures are filled with emotion and are a joy to see. Worth a stop, even if just to look.

This place is amazing, from photographs to the various staff members we've interacted with both times we visited Antigua. As photographers ourselves we were highly impressed with the composition and quality of the images and can really appreciate the fact that film was used. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and just a pleasure to converse with. Fun fact: we... More

A must see stop on your trip under the ARCH! These photos are a one of a kind! We stopped in the other day and there are photos of little children at ages 5 to 7 years old with the most amazing expressions and the colors are unbeleivable. While we were standing there there was a man hosting and we... More

It's a great shop with wonderful photographs. The fact that one of the children in the portraits, now a teenager, worked there, made it truly special.

I live in Guatemala City and needed some good pictures of Guatemalan people for a project I was making. I had seen this gallery but never went in it, so this time I decided to go for it and search what I was looking for. I must say I was really glad to visit that place. The pictures were lovely... I work with Mayan descent teachers in the highlands of Guatemala and am in country four times a year. My trips always end in Antigua and recently I have made a point to visit the gallery before flying back to the States. Although my most recent purchase was of three mature women wearing the traje of Nebaj, I gravitate toward... More

I visited El Fotografo on a trip in November 2011. I fell in love with the photography and the staff, who are often subjects of the photographs. I took home a small photo of a boy with carrots on his head, one of the only souvenirs I immediately hung on our office wall back in California. The images are modern... More

I was ready to pack my camera away after I saw the photos in this gallery near Antigua's famous arch. Over the years, I've tried to take pictures of people all over the world and have never gotten photos even remotely as good as these. The wizened elders and smiling kids that gaze out at you from these photos stand... More
