The creation of Captain Robert Douglas, a retired air force jet fighter pilot, the 30-year-old Black Dog Tavern has a simple decor, fresh local fish and vegetables daily and crowds in-season. There are four locations on the island. « less

It was a cold and windy New England night on the Vineyard. The sun had set and temperature had dropped to freezing. My husband and I had just finished a trek around the island and were literally looking for something to warm our souls! Since we had decided to visit Martha's Vineyard during non-peak season we did not have many... More

This company has made the news for ignoring consumer safety. They had their children's hoodies recalled because they had neck strings (duh, a no-no). They were then fined for continuing to sell them when a muckety muck from the Consumer Product's Safety Commission was vacationing on the island and found they were selling them for a reduced price. Our meal came to over $100 for dinner for two. We both had lost and both were over cooked. Very chewie!! The waitresses were rude! Very cold, no smiles. We got our t-shirts and don't need to come back! More

Don't support this 'cookie cutter' institution...it does not deserve it's rep. Really. Seriously BAD service, not even a nod to customer service and NO regard for customer satisfaction! The food is OK, but people also come for the location...couples perhaps more than large groups...so why not let parties of 2 sit by the water? Don't argue with the customer...we are... More

Great New England food at reasonable prices (by Island standards)... Try the stuffed quohags if they are on the menu, and the pan-seared scallops are always great. Lunch is fabulous, especially the salmon club and the lobster rolls. Breakfast may be their best meal; we eat breakfast there the first morning of our summer, for the past 15 years. Go... More
