Visit St.Sophia's museum on the other side of the square for a historical exposition about how this cathedral was destroyed and rebuilt. I can't remember any other churches in this distinct shade of blue. Take your time to stroll along the shaded valley behind the monastery - it's a great relaxing place. Find the viewing terrace with the most breathtaking...

Main church does look a little like a rocketship on start position, the reason I do not like it is that when rebuilding they chose not the most authentic version, but the most pompous one. If you want to visit St.Michael's Monastery, go to the old church at the eater (Trepesna). That is there you will feel blessed

Nice displays. History here, artwork, religious artifacts very dramatic to see how people respect this place

As clergyman and enthusiast of church architecture, I found St. Michael's the most breath-taking of countless breath-taking churches. Incredibly ornate nave and altar, with each blandishment of high symbolic significance. A free printed map/diagram orients visitors to the highlights. Far better than overrated Hagia Sophia, trails only incredible Lavras complex as "must see" religious site.

Pretty and colorful cathedral. Be sure to see the Monument to the Holodomor outside the cathedral which is a monument to the millions of Ukrainians who starved to death during Soviet times even though Ukraine had plentiful amounts of grain.

This is a stunning reproduction of the original Cathedral that was destroyed by the communists in the 1930's. You can also go up into the bell tower for an extra fee. It is worth it, but just don't go at the top of the hour... The bells are incredibly loud!
