Boyana Church is a UNESCO site, and to be honest, it is really small church. You can not miss the fresco inside the church. But the admission 10 Lev per person is a bit expensive. But you can but a combined ticket, 12 Lev, with Bulgarian History Museum. It is worthy. More

Very glad we went. Beautiful setting, was a family chapel. Murals inside are more modern looking and you can see the different layers of murals over the centuries. It was different from what we saw in all the other churches. More

Nothing can compare you for this. If you like frescoes, then this is the holy grail, and if I could give it 20 stars, I would. This small church, with its magnificently preserved and/or restored frescoes is so incredibly beautiful, and provides evidence of an early Renaissance in painting that upsets many of the dominant ideas about Italy's pre-eminence in... First signs of Renaissance of Bulgarian Medieval Art dated prior to the birth of Renaissance in Europe. Very well preserved and reconstructed piece of history. Very green area in the outscirts of Sofia. You could visit the curch either by means of transport or as the end stop of a hiking rout in the Vitosha mountains. There are nice places... More

An excellent just-out-of-the-city excursion. This old church in the local foothills is an absolute must if you want to learn about the early times of Christianity in the city. It is a wonderfully intiamate experience of some of the great masterworks of Bulgarian medieval art. More

Perhaps this is one of the most intriguing and spectacular churches I’ve ever seen. The frescoes dating back to 1259 are a remarkable example of realistic art from that era, a century earlier than the birth of the Italian Renaissance! The mythical ‘Boyana Master’ was indeed an exceptionally talented and bold artist, unafraid to supersede the established tradition of religious... More

A great place to take a guest from another country. For those of you who like to hike I strongly recommend the route to Boyana waterfall afterwards. More

closely followed by the 5000 to 3000 BC Thracian treasures in the National History and Architectural Museums. I an really surprised by some of the rather negative opinions previously expressed about Boyana. Yes it is difficult to reach (even by rental car with GPS), yes the staff are not particularly welcoming (but our male guide was somehow sweet in his... More

Great church, but hard to reach if you don't have a car. It is in the suburbs, below the Vitosha mountain. More
