We arrived by taxi about noon on a Sunday after reading online that the museum was open from 10 until 5 or 6 (I'm not sure) from Tuesday through Sunday. When we got there it was closed. No notice was posted as to why or what the hours may have been. More

Also known as the Museo de Artes Decorativas, this fabulous mansion that occupies its own city block was a highlight of our trip to the Ciudad Vieja. And it's free! You can't go wrong. More

I was amazed by the Palacio Taranco. The mansion is well-maintained, welcoming and has great works of art! I was able to walk in the garden and really experience the full quality of the home. Amazing. The experience reminded me of walking through one of Antonio Gaudi´s creations in Barcelona. More

This house sends you back to the early 20th century, when Montevideo was a wealthy, bustling city. The Palacio has most of the original furnishings and decorations, and it feels much more like a house than a museum. I especially liked the amazing art nouveau glass throughout the house.
