We hired a guide when we paid our admission. There were one or two unofficial guides that were hanging outside the museum. I recommend getting one, around $20USD. He helped explain some of the artifacts and gave us a quick overview of everything. I went specifically to see the gold displays and was suprised at the 33 soles entrance fee. Unknowingly I paid that one hour before they closed and did not get to see even half of the museum. I had a similar experience with recieving counterfeit change. So be warned...when you recieve change from here make sure you look for the waterprint or feel it compared to a real note...the counterfeit one feels like plastic in comparison. The collection is very impressive but not well laid out. More

Both the gold and arms sections are incredible collections but they are very poorly labeled and displayed. This could be a world class museum if they invested in the display, added labels and hired a good curator.
