From cold to hot climates in one day, from winter coats and thermals to t-shirts and shorts, from snow capped mountain terrain to jungles, the 4 night camping and 5 day trek through the Andes that ends at Machu Picchu was 100% rewarding. It was very difficult, but when you reach your goal to see what you have accomplished, you... More

After doing some research on the net and some good advice given to us by our liason at Uncover Latin America we decided this trek over the Lares Trail as the Inca Trail was fully booked out at the time we booked back in March. I was introduced to this agency through a friend who previously booked with them. What... More

We did a private, 5 day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu with SAS Travel in May 2012. It was fantastic - highly recommended, with one caveat. The trek itself is not to be taken lightly - most days we spent 6 hours hiking over rugged terrain, including over a 15,000 foot pass. Be sure to train! But, it is worth... More

United Mice was a wonderful outfitter for the Salkantay trek. Sent us the itinerary before hand as well as the meal plan. The meals were all delicious and filling. The staff and guides were incredibly helpful and knowledgable. I would recommend United Mice to anyone looking to do an alternative trek to machu picchu More

My boyfriend and I did the 5 day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu in April 2012. We cannot recommend Roberto, our guide, and the crew at SAS enough. I spent hours researching companies before booking with SAS and found them from first contact very efficient. Roberto was extremely knowledgeable and informative; he went above and beyond what you expect from... More

When I write ´rewarding´ what I mean is it is a good workout for the legs. By the end I don´t think I could have walked another day, or 100 metres. That being said the trek was absolutely fantastic. I did it with my girlfriend. We are in our mid 30´s we keep ourselves fit but we are by no... More

We had a fantastic time on our trek with Cusco Native. The five day Salkantay trek was literally breathtaking as we climbed from 2900m through lush valleys, past glaciated peaks, over the rocky Salkantay Pass at 4600m, then down into the high jungle, and onwards to Aguas Calientes and Macchu Picchu. Cusco Native specialise in small groups and we were... More

I am travelling alone in peru for about 2 months now, I met a lot people during my trip so by chance I met a couple from Denmark that recommend me to do the Salkantay trek to Machupicchu. Once in Cusco it was so difficult to hire a outfitter for the Salkantay trek due that there are so many of... More

Save YOUR Money...and do the less expensive tour that leads to Machu Picchu. It is called the Salkantay Trek. Most tourist do not know that there about seven generally known paths to Machu Picchu. The first path is the "Inca Trail"; which was only used by the Inca royalty. The remaining paths, including the Salkantay Trek, was used by the... More

In orde to enjoy it you must have a great fitness level plus the sights become very monotonous after a day of tekking. Summer trekking highly recommended, winter is wet season and very muddy path. More
