The bird market is no longer near Taman Sarik (the Water Palace) and is approx 2k south. It is a long way to go in traffic to spend half an hour. However it is very interesting - clearly the market has been laid out so there is spaces between the stalls and concrete paths and I assume that the old... More

Every bone in my body tells me that I shouldn't go here, but it is fascinating, colourful, wrong and exciting. If you want to change the world of animal welfare, either go here or avoid at all costs. If you have made it to the fantastic city of Yogyakarta then you need to see the bird market. There are some... More

it is hell for animals including those illegal ones like owls, monkeys... and others for medicines like gecko, bats, etc on the other hand, i was amazed to see them at the market. it was like going to a zoo. (i know it is bad and we shouldn't encourage it) More

i heard about this place and saw some on you tube. When i first reach this place i can feel that it is a hell for all kinds of animals especially birds. There are lots of different species birds and all the birds were captured and put into a small birds cage. I can see most of the birds are... More

it's a very interesting and unusual (for us) place. there are birds of every kind!!! but also a variety of other animals like cats, dogs, snakes, crocodiles, turtles, chickens, rabbits, bats, owls, squirrels, lizards etc etc etc etc but prepare yourself because it's very sad to see all those animals in those small cages... The market is very interesting from an antropological point of view, but also heartbreaking. All kinds of animals to find, not just birds. It is a diverse as you can imagine: dogs, cat, rabbits, cobra's, bats, gecko's, monkeys in cages... All animals are held in a terrible environment, in a small cage, in the heat without water. If you want... More

Pasar Ngasem is the name of the bird market; however, not just birds that you will find them, many other types of animals can be seen at the market. The smell of the air, of course, is one that you need to cope in while surfing around the market. I hardly go inside Pasar Ngasem as the fishes vendors are... More

there are some birds, reptiles, dogs and cats on sale here. Not as what been mentioned quite small. It's like a pet market only. Will be able to pass this market on the way to tamansari. For me this is much better than kraton. More
