As previous reviews state, this is a real hidden gem. In this institute/temple and the western monastery next door officials were pleasantly surprised and welcoming to tourists.
The complex is made of many levels, don't miss the best bit at the very top of the hill. You take a right down a little alleyway and come out into a side...

As a resident of Hong Kong for the last 10 years, I thought I saw it all. The typical (touristy) places like the giant Buddha, the Peak etc etc. Well, one day I though lets go to the Yuen Yuen institute... This Monastery is usually included in the "Land Between Tour" to the New Territories between the Kowloon hills and the boundary with Mainland China. It is quiet and colourful. In odrer to really appreciate it you probably need more than average knowledge of the practises of the three religions whose devotees share this holy site.
