Said to be one of the top museums in Beijing, this museum was a dissappointment. The displays were quite dated, and the animatronic dinosaurs, that are supposed to be the best bit were all broken. Plus there is no English translation of signs on the displays.

This is a cute little museum, and as long as you do not expect much, you're sure to get something for the 10RMB ticket.
The museum offers some exhibits, but the main attraction for me was the dinosaurs. there are numerous skeletons of various species and actually being so close to them is really exciting and humbling.

I enjoyed seeing the different dinosaurs and displays were well done. If you have kids, they will really enjoy this place.

Once you've done all the glitzy places in Beijing, consider seeing this and the Confucius Temple. These places haven't been "cleaned up" for westerners. They are for Chinese people. Very interesting insect collection and a rather horrifying exhibit on top floor of human oddities. Keep the kids busy with the dinosaurs.

I went on my own to see Tiananmen square. Not sure if this was really a good idea. made the huge mistake of visiting the Beijing National History Museum.
