This place seems to be an unknown to Western tourists. We were the only Westerners there. It is amazing. The kids absolutely loved it and we had to drag them away from every display. The China Science and technology museum is very new, having been built in the Olympic precinct in time for the Olympics. It's got all the things you'd expect from a science and technology museum - hands on demonstrations of various concepts, like electricity, Newtons laws, various geological phenomena. This review is very late. We visited this museum on 10th November 2009. We had the place almost all to ourselves as it was during the unexpected early snowfall in Beijing and it had just been opened recently.
