I was luck to catch Kom Ombo at sunsets. It glowed in the golden rays of sun, accompanied with humming of praying sound, the effect was quite dramatic! Kom Ombo was dedicated to two separate divine triads, one led by the crocodile-headed Sobet, the other by the falcon-headed Haroeris, a form of Horus, the Elder. More

Interesting to see the Crocodile God (Sobek) and to see the mummified crocodiles. Again this was another temple but had some unique features such as the dual gods, the calendar of events, and the crocodile carvings to name a few. More

We included seeing this spectacularly well preserved temple on our trip from Luxor south to Aswan arranged thru Memphis Tours. The quaility of the carvings and other art is amazing. Definitely try to include this temple on your trip planning More

Every temple has its own story and unique attractions. This one contains some interesting hieroglyphs and areas with original paint. There are a couple of noteworthy construction features which hopefully your guide will point out otherwise you can eavesdrop on someone else’s guide. The front wall includes some ancient wooden pegs used to keep the stones together and the sanctuary... More

We were lucky enough to have our first glimpse of this beautiful temple from the river and at night. The temple was beautifully lit up and the river approach just made it all more spectacular and almost magical. We visited this temple as an excursion whilst on a Nile cruise. The entire structure is just stunning. The hieroglyphics are well... More

Not all as it seems here, the constant pointing out of the Nilometer doesn't really ring true here, as there must have been a far simpler way of measuring the depth of the water (used for taxation) Also a quizzical look will show the amount of enclosed rooms/ puzzles and underground passage-ways which possibly were used for initiation rites, but... Having arrived in Egypt when the unrest was still apparent, we were priviledged to be the only people at many of the attractions we visited and Kom Ombo was no different. There is an almost eerie feeling wandering around these deserted structures amidst the desertand seeing onlt a few locals desperately trying tosell you some wares. We obliged- it was... More

Beautiful temple dedicated to the crocodile Goa Sombek. We visited this temple on our way back from Aswan going to Luxor. Well worth the couple of hours spent admiring the temple and the view. Infact there were no other visitors and we had the temple all to ourselves ! A must do if you are in the area. More

The Temple of Kom Ombo is a unique temple in Egypt. dedicated to two gods, Sobek the crocidile headed god and the falcon god Haroeris, also known as Horus the Elder. The temple is a beautiful structure that glows a golden-pink in the afternoon setting sun. During the day, the temple has a pinky-brown hue. Therefore, late afternoon/early evening is... More
