Our original itinerary did not include this unbelievable temple, which lies around 60-90 minutes north of Luxor. However, our guide suggested it during our free morning and we are glad we decided to do it! It is one of the best preserved temple sites in Egypt and the world and has some of the richest, most colorful hieroglyphs you will... More

This temple is a little further off the beaten track than most and is best seen with a knowledgable guide. This temple has wonderful paintings and the much colour that was such a feature of these temples when first built. There is a great deal of restoration underway and the difference between those sections cleaned and not cleaned is extreme.... More

About an hour by car from Luxor, the temple of Hathor, the cow-goddess is one of the attractions that are not so widely advertised...well, it should! It is a beautifully preserved temple. Having said that, this is not only due to the successful restoration efforts but to the sand that had coverd parts of the temple, therefore saving ancient and... More

As previously said this is a temple with fantastic decorations and now restorations. The people who worshipped there after the Egyptians actually did them a favour by putting the smoky soot on the ceilings as it preserved the colours of these drawings which show an amazing understanding of the cycle of the calendar. we of course went upstairs to visit... I visited Abydos and Dendera in a 1-day guided mini van tour organized by my hotel at Luxor (Mara House). The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, there was no dreaded stops at factories or stores. It was an uncomfortable 3-hour ride between Luxor and Abydos on very bumpy roads, then 1 plus hour to Dendera, and 2.5 hour ride back... More

For whatever reason, this was my most favourite temple on my Egypt trip. I think it was because the site was almost empty, it had a nicely thought out approach through tidy walks with gardens and a few pergolas with flower vines and benches to enjoy the view. The shopping area was situated at the exit, so you weren't dealing... More

We went privately with a guide. A long, and at times harrowing drive, but, well worth it. This was the best preserved temple we saw (also enjoyed Edfu Temple). Being able to climb under into storage rooms and up onto the roof provided a deeper understanding of how these temples functioned. The best part was escaping the crowds in Luxor. More
