“If open, these rarely visited pyramids make a nice contrast to the famous Giza pyramids”

Some of the reviews here seem to be commenting on the famous pyramids of Giza, on the outskirts of modern Cairo. By contrast, the Abusir pyramids are to the south of this, and in fact are much nearer to Saqqara. Abusir was closed in March 2012, but it can be seen from the road to Saqqara. In case it opens... We were told it is closed, but we could see them from a distance, when in Saqqara, on the way to the tomb of Ti. More

Have always wanted to visit the Pyramids and got a chance to go when on a Cruise in the Red Sea. Our coach journey took us through very poor areas, with rubbish everywhere and dead animals in the canal. The pyramids, were a disappointment, the place is like a giant quarry filled with white stones, barren & with every kind of seller and conman immaginable, even the cops want money if you take their photo. Pyramids visit ruined by hordes of 'hawkers' bugging you for camel rides, postcards, trinkets.... just about anything...AND QUITE PERSISTANT!!! I would say to people don't bother to go there - they ruined the experience for us the sooner the tourist people sort it out the better. We even had a tourist policeman bugging us to take our photo for "backsheesh"...... More
