A bit glitzy, but stop to listen to the prayers, and walk around the Buddha and appreciate the esthetic. More

The giant reclining Buddha image of Chauk Htat Kyi was donated by a rich Indian, fired by an ambition to make it the most prestigious image in the world. Work started in 1899 and today, under a huge tin shed, Buddha half reclines on a royal couch, one hand propping up his upper torso. The image is over 200 feet... More

The Reclining Buddha is a must-see in Yangon, the sheer size of the Buddha already captured my interest once we entered, the details we very good and the eyes were just mystical. I could sit and watch the Buddha and meditate for a long time. More

Less visited by tourists than Shwedagon, despite being walking distance away, this temple holds one of the largest seated Buddha statues in Asia. The statue was created first and then the temple built around it. The eyelashes are 3 metres long and there is a chart which lists the lengths of a number of key parts. The temple is wonderfully... much less publicised than Shwedagon but a definite must see - a huge, serene, reclining golden Buddha in a setting of great tranquility. Behind it there's an old monastery with friendly monks who'll be happy to show you around More

It's in a shed-like building but the reclining Buddha itself is interesting. There are signs to explain the 108 figures that are on the Buddha's feet. Interesting to see the surroundings. More

Although there are many reclining Buddhas, both in Myanmar and Thailand as well as many other countries, this is one of the best. The Buddha face in particular is so peaceful and charming, very attractive and well worth seeing. Also, unlike many other reclining Buddhas, this one is in a very large open side building so thus plenty of space... More

Having visited the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho in Bangkok just a few days earlier, I was initially ambivalent at seeing another one in Yangon. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this one better, as it was MUCH less crowded than the one in Bangkok, larger, and quite different. One of the most interesting things about Chaukhtatgyi is the functioning monastery there, and... More
