Just spent a couple of hours on the island. Laid our towels out on the (coarse but white) sand rather than paying for beach loungers. Definitely a nicer beach than the fairly average Anse Vata stretch. Snorkelled on the reef at fairly low tide. A bit of coral still clinging to life and fairly impressive numbers of fish - though... The place to be when you love to snorkel..The corals are the best. Lots of fish to see and when feeding them with a piece of bread they eat out of your hand and if you have a camera you won't be disappointed. Enjoy a day in the sun, eat at the restaurant or take your picnic basket and sit... More

The best part was the underwater snorkelling trail and the availability of beach chairs, umbrellas and excellent food. Can get crowded on weekends so get there early for a decent spot on the beach. More

You start at a beautiful beach, pay $15 for the taxi boat and end up on a shelly stony beach that's somewhat less appealing than the beach you just came from. To top it all off, you then have to pay if you want to sit on a chair, and the little option they do have in the way of... More

This was a real treat. Only 5 mins by water taxi from L'Anse Vata and you're on a lovely little island with great snorkelling in the channel beside the boat access. Some of the nicest snorkelling we found in New Caledonia. And the food at the island restaurant was fresh, delicious and very reasonably priced. More

Ile aux Canards is a small island located 5 mins by taxi boat off Noumea. Not much on the island except for a restaurant and some deck chairs to relax on. The taxi costs $15AUD and the chairs are about $14AUD each for the day. It's a beautiful way to spend a day in New Caledonia.... More

Great trip on the water taxi. Some snorkelling options. Limited space to lie on beach depending on tide. Take your own food and drink (it's somewhat over priced on the island). Nevertheless a reasonable pleasant day. More

Ile aux canards is a small but pretty island, it is extremely close to Noumea and was only a few minutes in the water taxi from Anse Vata beach (1200fr each). The water is crystal clear and the snorkelling was fantastic, as soon as we put our heads under we saw an abundance of fish (including a small sting ray)... More

Loved the short water taxi trip out. Very hot even on our arrival at 10 am. Didn't realise you really needed to rent some chairs and thus some shade but this was relatively inexpensive and pretty much a necessity. Rented the snorkelling equipment and enjoyed viewing some of the surrounding depths. The restaurant/cafe staff were friendly and helpful. You can... More
