Asuncion needs to up some of their police presence - they are around but around here it was just dodgy. Nice old buildings (nothing special if been to other South American cities) but just an unpleasant element hanging around. Even got offered to buy a taser here... I politely declined.

Like much of the faded glory of Asuncion, this is just a relic of a Colonial past. While in town, you might as well visit it for five minutes at best.

It's the center of government for this little Country. Very well done and worth a walk around. Day or night you will like it. Very attractive.

Nice to look at from afar. Cannot approach the grounds because the guards shoo you away. Interesting monument in park next to the palace reflecting future of democracy in Paraguay

I was in Paraguay with the charity I help and we met the president in the palace. It looks amazing from the outside, it's even nicer inside

Definitely should go at night when it's lit up. Really beautiful then! As others have pointed out, it's one of the richest looking buildings in the old town and right in front is a large slum neighbourhood. The area around the palace is very nice though with plenty of friendly locals.

Stay in the bar across the street (Entrance through the back) to watch an amazing sunset with the lights of the palacio slowly taking the scenary.

This is a pretty building that was actually designed to look like a smaller version of Versailles. It sort of succeeds at that. Go 'round back for nicer views. Don't worry about the proximity to the slum... it's not an issue. There are always lots of families milling about.

We wandered down to the Government Palace while touring Asuncion. Very beautiful building and you cannot miss it as it is quite large. We could not go inside but wanted to if it was possible. All of the best sites in downtown Asuncion are easily seen in a half day.
