given the lack of communist history in Colombia I was suprised this square was so boring and officious. It could be anywhere in Eastern Europe. Vast and surrounded by flat concrete buildings there is no charm,no colonnaded walks or greenery. The only high spot are the lamas for photos with the tourists and the birdseed for the hundreds of pigeons

Big open square with lots of pigeons, just like most other plazas. Good as a starting point to explore the rest of the neighborhood.

This plaza was once the central maketplace of the city of Santa Fe and it became important during the break with Spain in the 1800s. Named after Simon Bolivar who helped free Colombia from Spain.

The plaza is safe, dirty, not visitor friendly ... certainly not worth a special trip to see it. If you are in
Bogota, it something to see, but after a few photos ... then move along. 2-3 blocks in the direction of the Museo Del Oro Transmelio Bus station is a nice Juan Valdez coffee shop and also a restaurant...

They will land on your arms and eat out of your...

Take pictures of the Congress, the Cathedral, the Palace of Justice and watch out the pigeons! Though historic, this square should get more attention and be in a better condition.

A good point to start your visit to Central Bogota, which must include a visit to the Botero and the Gold Museum and the Candelaria Museum....the Plaza Bolivar, which hosts the main government buildings and the impressive cathedral, is a place full of life and energy. I could not resist the temptation of having my picture taking with the Andean...

It doesn't have a great vibe, it's more of a center of government with some monumental buildings that are worth a look. It's an okay spot to grab some street food for lunch, visit the tourist info office, people watch and snap some pics but the lack of shade and seating make it sort of grim and bland.
