What I assumed would be a tourist oriented venue that played upon the human greed for gold was instead an opening of a door to cultural mysteries that I had been educated to believe had been destroyed with the Spanish conquests. What secrets were revealed by the artifacts in this Museum! A lovely, intellegent building to display what has survived.

Great place to spend a hot afternoon. But don't come in a rush or if you are tired.
Take at least a couple of hours and spend the extra 3 dollars on the electronic guide earphones.
You want be disappointed.
The history lesson in itself is worth the trip.
The pure gold exhibits, almost a 1000 in total are mind...

An amazing musuem with a small entrance fee. I have never seen something similar before in my life. You can rent an audio guide. Invest half a day for this! Visiting this museum gave a completely different perspective on gold and its importance in life of people of South America as compared to Europe. You will see great goldsmiths' work which does not seem ( to me) as sophisticated as Egyptian or European but the stories behind those pieces of art are so enchanting that you will not stop surprising...
