This souq is a great place to wander around. It's extremely safe and full of interesting things to see (and buy!). Shop owners will give you prices many times what they would charge an Omani, so haggle! I talked a guy down from about $40 to $10 for a pashmina and he probably would have gone a little lower. Muttrah souk is in a beautifl location, near the sea, in a protected harbour where sometimes the dolphins come to swim. It is located behind beautiful old houses with overhanging wood balconies, some painted in light blue. In my opinion, it is quite a big souk (for the Middle East), with lot of narrow, winding alleys, some protected from the... More

You can buy incense and burners here pretty cheaply as well as some beautiful material. You must learn to haggle the prices properly so that you can obtain what you want. The stall holders tend to be less pushy and pretty easy going then in the Souks in places like Turkey or Egypt. More

Nice size souk with store owners that won't hassle you too much. It has wooden ceilings throughout, which makes it different than the souks I've seen elsewhere. Silver, gold, pashmina, etc. could be found here. You want get haseled as much as in Khan Khalili or Kapali Charshi. A must see in Muscat More

A visit to Muscat is incomplete with a trip to the Old souk. Its an experience not to be missed. You can walk the souk alleys and it will be a treat for all your senses. The colours, the smells, the noise of the busy souk are charming. You can spend hours looking at the goods in the quaint little... More
