Although the palace is rather far from the main hotels, it's worth the effort to reach it (10 minutes by taxi or at about an hour and a half on foot - there are a lot of places where to rest on the way there). The whole government quarter is very pleasant to stroll around, with limited traffic (you won't... More

The Alam Palace is found in the old area of Muscat. You can walk right up to the gates for photos. Either side are forts and the colonnade of buildings either side of the entrance give it a really appealing setting. Now another Ministry is being built facing it, the area will be nicely 'balanced'. This is a ceremonial palace.... More

Worthwhile trip just to get a few pictures. Otherwise not a main destination. More

This site was interesting but this is not where the Sultan spends his time. I would put it on my must see list if you are going to be in Muscat. More

The Sultan's Muscat Palace is majestic, overlooking the Muscat Bay. It is the official residence of HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said, but in recent years he hardly resides here. It is a tourist attraction as a photo stop, since visitors are not allowed in the palace. More

The Sultan Palace in itself has nothing exceptional. However, the whole area is a great example of a modern architecture, which has kept a local, traditional style. It is also a spotless place with an amazing number and variety of flowers and plants. The Palace is set deep into a small rocky cove protected on both sides by two forts. More

The palace is huge and isn't open to the public (as the local told us that the Sultan was in residence) however one can go near the entrance to get pictures. It is colored blue to reflect the colors of the sea and yellow/golden to reflect the colors of the sunset (as I got to know). However, if you are... More

Nothing that special and you cannot go inside. Get a taxi to stop and you can take a picture or even the hotel bus will stop but not worth going out of the way for. More
