two and a half hours drive from muscat.my home twon, So many activities there, i camped in the desert several times, and there is a few camps which you can book in advance during weekends, you can try camel riding, or drive a motor cycle through sand dunes. At night is my favourite time, lighting a fire and just enjoy... More

We did the 4 day tour with Desert Discovery, which gives you a day in Muscat, followed by a drive down the coast, 2 overnights in desert camps, and a drive through the country back to Muscat. It was a very varied trip, including wadis, turtles, forts, camels.....etc! Our guide was very well informed, and interesting. Food was excellent throughout,... More

Total ripoff. Designed only to gouge tourists out of their money. "Camel riding" = sit on camel for five minutes. More

The camp is great, a little over priced, but you can forgive that because of the welcome you get. However, its now in danger of not being in the middle of the Wahiba Sands as it has a road very close by.....its lost a bit of its old charm More

We spent a night at the al areej camp and it was definitely worth the trip. The drive to the camp is picturesque and takes around two and a half hours. We got there by noon which was a little early but the staff were very welcome. The tents are clean and we were provided with quite comfortable beds. The... More

I have done this in Dubai also in the 4 x 4 jeeps in the desert. Not for the faint hearted and I am sure all the men love this trip! More

More of an accommodation option than an attraction, this is a simple camp set on the edge of the Sharquiya sands. The setting of dramatic steep dunes is a definite bonus. The rooms are more like little wooden bungalows with proper beds. The bathrooms are shared but clean. More

We stayed here for one night at the end of December during a week independent sightseeing in Oman. This camp is located only a few kilometers from the highway, but you feel really far away. It did seem they were building a new road right in front of the camp though. We stayed in a palmleave hut with our own... More

I recently stayed at both desert dicovery camps (in Ras al Jinz and in Wahiba sands). Both camps were so unbelievely dirty. It reminded it me the worst dorms of India at time I was backpacking 20 years ago. It's quite astonishing that the Omani Ministry of Tourism would allow to use such beautiful settings to put up dirty tents... More
