Whilst I don't think I'd recommend going out of your way to get to Madaba to see the mosaic map, if you're passing through or nearby, it's definitely worth stopping. We visited fairly early in the morning and initially were the only two people in the church. The church itself is quite heavily decorated with paintings and smaler mosaics on... More

After paying 1 JD per person for a ticket sou can visit the St. George's church where the mosaic map is part of the church floor. It was a huge mosaic once but has been badly damaged over the centuries so that more than 2 thirds are missing nowadays. The church itself is niceish with modern mosaic portraits haniging on... More

After taking some time outside of the church to study the map with the English translation of the place names go inside and take a look. The accuracy is amazing considering the age of the map. The church itself is very nice with many mosaic religious pictures on the walls, take a while to look around the church. More

As we stayed in the Pilgrims House of the Greek-Orthodoxe Church we had plenty of time to admire that beautiful mosaic map, but it is a good thing to have a person to explain the meaning of the map, because we found it difficult to understand the pictures just from reading a guide-book. When you buy your entrance ticket to... More

After reading so much about this map it really is wonderful to finally see it - makes you long to be able to see the "missing" bits, but what's left is still wonderful. More

Historically and artistically an impressive and significant mosaic but be prepared for it to be smaller than you might expect and for many parts of the mosaic to be faded or missing. Fortunately the entrance fee is miniscule. More

I'm not religious, and I didn't get the hype. Our guide was more excited than we were. We had to wait to get in to the church and I stayed in there about 2 minutes. More

An incredible mosaic and quite awe inspiring to think of just how old it was. You get a really good view of it and are allowed to take photographs inside the church, which is nice. Very calm and peaceful. You are expected to wear appropriate clothing ( no skimpy tops etc) as it is a religious site. More
