Our whole trip revolved around visiting Buddhist Monasteries so this one, a day trip from Ulaanbaatar, was well worth it. Visit the museum while your there, as they are separate. More

“Ghosts of lamas”

A monastic city that was destroyed in the communist purges (1937-9) - many ruined temples and one or two revived. Good place to go to be in the countryside and scramble up the mountainside behind the temple complex. Museum in nearby Sum Centre, Zuumod, has pictures of the monastery at its height before it was destroyed. More
