I went to this market back in 2005 and found charming laid back and with some lovely stalls. This time I couldn't recognise it, they have built a shopping mall next door so I would no longer call it a market just a shopping mall. Also they are very reluctant to negotiate, even by a small amount, so not really... More

“The most laid back market in Asia”

Very surprised and impressed when we fell across this place while walking around Vientiane. It was a pleasure browsing. Absolutely no hassle or pressure. We even got my belt repaired for free. Go and enjoy we will visit again! More

Every city in Lao has a day or night market where you can find plenty of crap like the iphone5 (which is not yet available for real) but hidden here and there you'll find some gems like the mah jong in a stone box which I bought for the equivalent of 50 bucks and is really cool: it looks old... The 'Morning Market' in Vientiane is called Talat Sao and is one of the must visit places when visiting Laos. This morning market is located at the eastern corner of Lan Xang Rd. and Khu Vieng Rd. in the heart of Vientiane, it opens 7:00 in the morning and stays open till around 4:00pm daily and is full of locals...
