We enjoyed the boat trip and had a knowledgeable guide to ourselves. We were picked up from our hotel and were told all about the town on the water. The boat trip was exhilerating and watching the monkeys come out of the mango groves and climb up the trees was brilliant. More

The Kampong Ayer is a nice place to spend some hours just wandering around. Start by visiting the Gallery and then wander around. Crossing over by watertaxi costs 50 cents. Just stand on one of the jetties and a taxi will show up soon. More

We didn't go for the boat trip through the water village, but just took a water taxi across. The price to cross the river is one Brunei dollar per person, and you can just wave down a water taxi. We just wandered around between the houses (and ended up in some dead ends as well) Visiting the village this way,... More

you will get plenty of offers from the boatmen to take you there, it's just across the river and well worth taking an hour to travel slowly around the village. Go at sunset and then come back for dinner beside the river More

A boat ride to the water village and down the mangrove-lined river is without doubt the best way to kill an hour in Bandar Seri Begawan. It's not exactly a gentle cruise - a 4m long wooden dinghy strapped to a 60hp outboard motor really flies, and our boatman was only too happy to show us what his craft could... More

The Venice of the East has an interesting history but is rundown and a bit underwhelming. The visitor's centre is worth a stop and boat ride is refreshing on a hot day. More

I took a water taxi out for an hour. Cost us $20 each however, you have to bargain a bit as he initially wanted $30! nice all round trip. The water village is nothing spectacular but definitely worth a visit. Was very interesting to ride around inside the village and see a whole community of 30,000 living in houses on... More

The tour company we did our day-tour through said that we weren't able to go inside a villager's house to have tea because we were visiting on a Friday. So, they just ended up getting us a boat and we went for a ride--we didn't have any explanation about what anything was, so it was disappointing--we would definitely recommend going... More

I took the 30-min water taxi tour of Kampong Ayer (Water Village). Very interesting to see these homes on stilts where 30,000 people live. I was alone with the driver of the boat and the cost was BN$30. There is also a 90-min tour for BN$50 More

Take a water taxi for a couple of dollars to see the villages of about 300,000 people. The majority of people in Brunei live on the water so this is a must see. More
