Confucian scholar Nguyen Van Sieu had a large pen-shaped tower built at the entrance of the temple in 1864, featuring three Chinese characters, Ta Thanh Thien, which literally means "to write on the blue sky is to imply the height of a genuine and righteous person's determination and will." « less

Located on the Lake of Hoan Kiem, accessible by this elegant red looking brigde and is a shrine which is dedicated to General Tran Hung Dao, who defeated the Mongols in the 13th century. Ideal spot to take picture of Hoan Kiem district. Admission is just for 20,000VND.

I like the vistas of the bridge and temple and also those from the bridge and temple. Lovely place to escape the city mayhem for a little, to sit by the lake, smell the incense and reflect.

very easy to found this place, yes because very eye catching when you stop at Hoan Kiem Lake. With red bridge and the pagoda. Nice to capture from around the lake.

This place is located in small island of Hoan Kiem lake, it is easy for you to visit after your water puppet show or before the water puppet show. That is lovely island where you can see the body of tortoise which is very big and very old. See the Vietnamese culture of praying and worship saints.

Basically, this is just a little outcrop into Hoan Kiem Lake. It's $1 and you will be done with it in less than an hour. If you have kids, it might be nice to go over the bridge with them, but honestly I didn't really get the point.

Small but very old temple that sits on the north corner of Hoam Lake. It has an interesting history & was dedicated to the God of Literature (Van Xuong). You'll want to step onto the wooden Sunbeam Bridge. While in the area take a look at the beautiful white marble sculpture also known as the Martyr's Monument. It was dedicated... More

it is the centre of Hanoi and Vietnam, you can see a lot of intteresting things there, and the surrounding is nice too. Best visited with a tour guide thats knowledgeable about this gem of a place. Take some time to appreciate the history and culture of Hanoi, Vietnam.

This temple has been at the center of the lake and the nation for near 800 years. It is not the most beautiful, not the largest, but the significance and the view of the lake make it a good stop on your walking tour. Go at dawn to see the real neighborhood people using this public space.

The interesting part of this temple is probably the conserved turtle. From what we gathered the turtle lived in Hoan Kiem Lake (where the temple is locaded) and died at the age of somewhere around100 years. There are some pretty nice mangrove trees (great photo op) on that temple island. We visited on a Sunday and it was quite busy.... More
